Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor
Published: 9 October 2008

Important questions for new healthcare era

• I NOTE with interest the resignation of Professor David Taylor, chairman of Camden and Islington Foundation Trust (Outburst health boss: I quit, October 2).
It is disappointing to hear Professor Taylor blame his emotional health and overwork for this.
I am disappointed, too, that the question which the member of the public was trying to ask when Professor Taylor told him to “shut up”, was not reported.
We should learn – before community treatment orders take hold in October 2008 – what questions the trust would rather not entertain, from the interested public in public discussion.
More exactly, where the door closes on public and patient user involvement in this new era.
Or where exactly we can expect to find a short fuse as the management reconciles greater clinical power with shrinking budgets.
