Bendy trains
• AN exhibition in front of Euston station featured a mock-up of new trains planned for the Metropolitan, Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines.
The 151 trains will have what we would have called seven or eight cars, but with “concertina” links between them.
There will be no dividing doors between the driver cabins at both ends of the train.
My concern is about fire spreading the entire length of a train and no means of containing it, as well as the effect of smoke.
I raised my concerns with a project information officer at the exhibition but was alarmed at his complacent response.
We need an independent examination of these new trains before they are brought into service in 2010. We don’t want a repeat of the bendy-buses fires, but on a larger scale.
