Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor
Published: 2 October 2008

How unit lost out

• MY former Camden Tribunal Unit colleague Liberal Democrat Linda Chung deserves congratulations for her success in the Hampstead Town by-election, especially given that her party’s prospective parliamentary candidate signally failed to win the ward in the last borough elections.

People in Kentish Town and elsewhere in Camden who encountered the unit, which provided legally qualified representation, advocacy and far more than just a shoulder to cry on, will be aware, however, how the Lib Dems and their Tory sidekicks treated the unit.
They completely removed the unit’s grant, despite its outstanding, professional record of representing people at maternity and employment appeals tribunals, by 100 per cent, causing its closure, and despite suggestions of support from Lib Dems just before the last Kentish Town ward by-election.
