Torriano pupils pick up new dancing moves from a Semekor visitor |
History is well worth banging on about!
BLACK History Month was launched with a bang on Monday when drummers and dancers visited Torriano Junior School.
The Semekor troupe dropped in on the Kentish Town primary school to host an interactive assembly that saw every year group go to the front to take part in banging the drums and learning the dance routines.
Headteacher Bavaani Nanthabalan said children at the Torriano Avenue school were already learning about the civil rights movement and were busy asking “Who are the people of Britain?”, and that Black History Month had an important role in the curriculum.
Ms Nanthabalan added: “How can you not do something about different cultures? Britain is so diverse in its population, it just seems illogical not to celebrate that diversity.” |
