Gunner Girls’ stoppage time stunners
Women’s Football Premier League
Arsenal 6, Birmingham 2
ARSENAL moved five points clear at the top of the table on Sunday with a flattering win. The scoreline belied a hard-fought contest, which saw the Gunners score three goals in stoppage time to seal the points.
The champions took an early lead through Jayne Ludlow, but Becky Hall equalised for Birmingham. Gemma Davison restored Arsenal’s advantage, but again the visitors drew level when Amy McCann scored just before the hour mark.
Julie Fleeting bagged a brace late on to break Birmingham’s resolve.
There was still time for Kim Little to get her name on the score-sheet, before Davison wrapped up the win with her second of the game.
SE Combination League Spurs 4, Cambridge City 5
SPURS Ladies are still searching for their first win of the season after losing out against Cambridge on Sunday in a nine-goal thriller. In a topsy-turvy game, goals from Sam Garner and Alex Small saw Tottenham come from a goal down to go 2-1 up.
Cambridge hit back with four unanswered goals to race into a 5-2 lead. Spurs battled back in search of a point with Small netting her second and Natasha Ademakinwa scoring from the spot. It proved too little, too late as the north Londoners slipped to a 5-4 defeat.
Greater London League
Division Two North
Garston 2, Camden Town 5
TABLE-TOPPING Town made it three wins out of three on Sunday with a five-star show. Leading scorer Mary Guest continued her unstoppable form in front of goal with a stunning hat-trick, taking her personal tally to seven goals in just three games.
Genia Gulyas, who lives in Islington, and Carol Brown also hit the target as Camden Town ran out 5-2 winners.
