Easy riders: from left, Leo Childs, his mother Sam, Charley Brown and Shaho Qadir
Edinburgh to London cyclists aim to help Shaho to 2012 Paralympics

A TIRELESS trio are preparing to put their pedal power to the ultimate test next week when they cycle from Edinburgh to London.
Charley Brown, Sam Childs and her son Leo will tackle a gruelling 398-mile journey over six days in a bid to help raise money for close friend Shaho Qadir, who is one of the disabled sports world’s fastest rising stars.
Setting out on their bikes on Monday, together they will ride past Northumberland, through Durham and Nottingham before returning home via Tower Bridge next Saturday. They are hoping that their combined efforts will help raise £3,500, which will be used to buy Shaho a new racing wheelchair.
Shaho, who lives in King’s Cross, lost both his legs in an explosion back in his Kurdish home town of Halabja when he was just 13 years old. With his body still full of shrapnel and scars, the 33-year-old refused to be beaten and has gone on to become one of the top 20 wheelchair racers in the world.
In his latest challenge, Shaho has set his sights on securing a place in the Great Britain team ahead of the 2012 Paralympic Games after receiving his British citizenship earlier this month.
Sam, who works in the Fresh Juice Bar in Highgate, said: “Shaho is the most inspirational friend I have ever had the opportunity to meet.
“He constantly strives uncomplainingly in the face of adversity, and despite his disability he has completed countless marathons and races.
“Now he wants to fly the flag for Great Britain, and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that happens.”
