Students take to the rooftops!

JUNGLES could be springing up on rooftops across Camden after businesses got wind of innovative charity work being carried out by schoolchildren.
Three roofs are earmarked for transformation by the teenagers from Maria Fidelis School in Euston and Haverstock School in Chalk Farm, who are leading the project with the help of Kentish Town charity, Global Generation.
One garden has already been completed on top of the Office Group building in Gray’s Inn Road, King’s Cross, while Acorn House restaurant and the
Terrence Higgins Trust, who share a building in Gray’s Inn Road, have signed up for the scheme.
Maria Fidelis School and the Wolff Olins building near King’s Cross are also set to see roofs given a makeover.
Jane Riddiford, from Global Generation, said putting gardens on roofs was a good way for companies to reduce their carbon footprint and build links with youngsters in their areas.
“It’s a way of companies achieving sustainability and engaging young people,” she said.
The project is one of 10 in the country to be nominated for a national government award, the Big Green Challenge, and stands to win £1 million funding should they be successful next October.
