Mental health cuts will kill more
• THE tragic death of Colville Mark was unexplained (Flat death man’s visits stopped when mental health posts axed, August 28).
It seems that it might have been prevented if there had still been enough people on the Community Mental Health Team for someone to visit him. This was a view shared by a consultant psychiatrist at the inquest.
The cuts in the mental health services over the last two years meant that there was no one to visit him to see that he was still alive and well. The Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust has cut and cut the mental health services so that the safety net for vulnerable people now has more holes than net and people are increasingly more likely to fall through than be saved. The current lack of community mental health services seems likely to mean that more vulnerable people like Mr Mark could die. Their deaths could be prevented if the
services they need were still in place.
