Rampant Gunners’ four-midable form

Women’s Football Round-Up : Premier League

Leeds Carnegie 1, Arsenal 6
Arsenal 6, Watford 1

LEAGUE leaders Arsenal made it four wins out of four with back-to-back 6-1 victories over Leeds and Watford this week.
Star striker Kelly Smith scored twice but was then sent off as the Gunners ran riot away at Leeds on Sunday. Smith gave the Gunners a great start with two goals in the opening five minutes.
Jade Moore’s seventh-minute strike brought the home side back into the game, but 11 minutes later England winger Karen Carney restored Arsenal’s two-goal advantage. Smith saw red along with Carnegie’s Alex Culvin when the pair squared up to each other midway through the first-half.
But the north Londoners didn’t let the dismissal dismantle their game as they went on to seal a comfortable win thanks to Carney’s second goal of the game and strikes from Gemma Davison and Katie Chapman.
Arsenal also netted six on Thursday when a brace from Smith, and goals from Davison, Carney, Kim Little and Jayne Ludlow sealed a resounding victory over Watford.

Late rally not enough to save Spurs

SE Combination League

Tottenham Ladies 3,
Welwyn Garden City 6

POOR defending saw Spurs Ladies slip to a disappointing defeat on Sunday.
Mel Berry gave Tottenham an early lead with a penalty after a foul on Clare Singh. Despite the efforts of keeper Ricole Vyse and Kelly Herrett, Welwyn made it 1-1 before the break. A second-half collapse saw the game put beyond Spurs’ reach. But the ladies battled back to give the home side a nervous last 15 minutes. Alex Small blocked the keeper’s clearance allowing Jessie Richards in to reduce the deficit before Kirsten Thomson scored a third to give the score-line a more respectable look.
