Camden New Journal - Letters to the Editor
Published: 4 September 2008

Time for an extra tax concession?

• WHAT about it chancellor or would-be chancellor?
Is there not a case for elderly retired taxpayers who are regulated London rental tenants to receive extra tax allowances for their domicile?
After National Service I became employed in London and the rent of my flat was £1 18s 6d per week.
Now, 56 years later the current regulated rent is £187 per week exclusive of rates.
An allowance could be introduced akin to a London allowance enjoyed by some workers and would be much appreciated by tenants in my position who want to remain where they are and see their days out there.
