Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 28 August 2008

Insult to our caretaker

• I AM a leaseholder on the Lymington Road estate in West Hampstead, where I have lived for 11 years. The standard of cleanliness on the estate is very high, as we have an outstandingly good resident caretaker who takes pride in his work.
We are emphatically not “lagging behind other parts of the borough” (Clean sweep on estates, August 21). This blanket condemnation is an insult to our hard-working caretaker.
In June more than 70 per cent of our residents signed a petition to Camden Council asking to keep our resident caretaker and saying that he cannot be replaced by contract cleaners. We now know that our excellent caretaker will still be resident on the estate but will be mainly deployed elsewhere.
We await the deterioration of cleaning services while the pilot scheme is carried out. I look forward to reading letters in  praise of Veolia’s services from tenants and leaseholders in “other parts of the borough”.
