Gold for Ron and Simon at Inter Club

TOP runners from Highgate Harriers and London Heathside braved the rain on Saturday to take part in the London Inter Club Challenge at Parliament Hill Fields.
Among the top performers for Highgate was Simon Child and Ron Smith, who both captured gold after winning their respective 400m hurdles and 200m races. In the distance events, Stephen Whiting continued the gold rush to win the 5000m.
Team-mate Kevin Gold couldn’t live up to his name as he took silver in his 100m race, while British Masters Champion Greg Smith won bronze in the 400m.
In the women’s competition, Alex Goodwin was Highgate’s leading figure as she won the 800m and finished second in the 400m.
Meanwhile in the junior ranks, Amy Jane Cotter won the Under-15s high jump and the javelin. There was also success for the Laing brothers, with William and George finishing first and third respectively in their 800m event, and Peter winning gold over the same distance in the Under-13s category. Peter also won gold in the high jump.
London Heathside also enjoyed a successful run out. Eden Confino and Nicky Famodun dominated the high jump as they both won their respective men’s and women’s competitions.
Elsewhere Adam Zeniou scooped double silver after finishing second in the shot putt and the discus, while Edie Bayne took bronze in the same events. On the track veteran distance runner Paul Lemmon finished second in the 5000m, while John Brasier finished third in the 1500m.
