Boys to men and set for FA Cup
Club founded as a youth team all set to compete in famous competition
KENTISH Town will bring new meaning to “the magic of the cup” on Sunday when they make their debut in the oldest football competition in the world. Town will take on Wellingborough Town in the extra preliminary round of the prestigious FA Cup.
And director of football Frank Zanre is urging fans to show their support by turning out at Barnet Copthall Stadium.
He said: “We want everyone connected with Kentish Town, past and present, to come along and witness this milestone. “It’s a tremendous achievement for us. And everyone who has played a part in helping make it happen should be there to celebrate. “Having a packed stadium will really help the players, and give them just the lift they need ahead of such a big game.”
Nobody could have imagined what lay ahead when parents Zanre and Frank O’Hare joined forces almost 14 years ago to unite a team of youngsters.
What started out as a spirited under-10s side is now one of the biggest clubs in the borough, boasting fixtures in the FA Cup, the FA Youth Cup and the FA Vase.
Made up of players from across Camden and Islington, Kentish Town are looking to build upon a magnificent campaign last term, which saw them crowned champions in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League.
Town have made a stuttering start to life in the Premier Division, netting one point from their opening two games. On Tuesday they lost 2-0 away against Kingsbury London Tigers.
The result comes after a frustrating 2-2 draw in their opening game away at Hertford Town.
