Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 31 July 2008

MRSA cut

• WHIE I was pleased to see an article reporting a positive story about our infection control record unfortunately the facts are inaccurate (Royal Free is beating MRSA, July 24).
You reported that the hospital recorded “no infections so far in 2008”. In fact our critical care unit has had no central line catheter-related bloodstream infections since mid-July last year, that is, for a year; and that the critical care unit has had no MRSA infections for the past six months.
The unit is understandably proud of its achievements and it is hoped that the work underlying this success will be introduced in all areas of the hospital in due course.
DR STEVEN SHAW
Lead consultant critical care
