Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 31 July 2008

Drug users to blame

IN response to Lee Warren (Where are police for real crime? July 17), who implies that urinating in public is no big deal, would he have thought the same if his daughter and partner had witnessed such an event? I think not!
This ward’s Safer Neighbourhoods panel, on its inception 18 months ago, identified the drug market as its biggest concern, and tasked this ward’s police team to address it. To their credit, they have to date, obtained an unprecedented 105 Asbos, each of which required many hundreds of police man-hours to collect the required evidence to place before the courts. We have also seen as well, a very welcome reduction in certain drug-related crimes of up to 40 per cent.
Mr Warren is rightly aggrieved by the actions of the dealer, but does not see that the real villain is actually the drug buyer/user, who drives this business.
