Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 July 2008

All governors deserving of warm tribute from school

EARLIER this month Rhyl Primary School paid tribute to the contribution that my late partner Brenda Degerdon made to the work of the school during the period of more than 30 years that she was a governor (Peace message at school, July 10).
I would like to express to the school the sincere appreciation of the family and friends of Brenda Degerdon for the school’s very generous tribute.
During the tribute, those present were entertained by the school’s orchestra, who played to a very high standard, by the beautiful singing of the children and by a fancy dress competition with colourful and imaginative costumes.
The school, while in an old building, is bright, colourful and adorned with a myriad of work by the pupils.
The rapport between staff and children (who were immaculately behaved) shows an extremely warm, friendly and happy atmosphere.
All of this can only have been achieved by the motivation, imagination, commitment and hard work of the whole of the staff led by the head, Christina Oki.
Brenda would have been very honoured and flattered by the tribute paid, but she would have also wanted the valuable contribution of her fellow governors, currently chaired by Helene Reardon-Bond to be recognised.
The governors give a lot of their time, unpaid, to support in various ways the work of the school and perhaps this may not be always publicly recognised.
Brenda gained considerable pleasure from her association with the school and having had the privilege of seeing the school, albeit for only a very short time, I can now fully understand why.
