Camden youngsters celebrate at climax of an epic sporting week

THE borough’s young stars were still celebrating following one of the biggest sporting weeks in Camden’s history.
On Wednesday youngsters were honoured for their efforts during this year’s London Youth Games at a special presentation at the Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town. Among the starlets presented with trophies and shields was the cycling team of CJ Burke, Max and Jamie Hayhurst, Josh Lawlor, Leo Jaggs, Finbarr Ricketts and Sissy Bridge who won a team silver at the finals, which were held at Crystal Palace.
Footballers Niki Chalk-Wright, Loreley Bedoa, Beverley Moshwe, Shanice Inva-Davies and Anais N’Daw from Swiss Cottage School were named the most outstanding girls’ team. Meanwhile the artistic gym team won the most outstanding boys’ accolade, with Shane Cojocarel and Theo Gayle collecting the mantle.
Presented by mayor Councillor Nurul Islam, the hockey team from South Hampstead School were crowned the fair play winners, while the most outstanding team award went to the athletics squad for their performance in the Mini Youth Games.
Individual awards went to Josh Limb and Jay Kirton, who won gold in their respective swimming and karate events, while Reut Benham was voted most outstanding girl after winning gold in her 50m butterfly competition.
