Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 July 2008

Schools share: council must do homework

• ROBIN Young’s letter (Perplexed, July 10) may well represent what many coming to this “controversy” could easily assume from council statements.
Edith Neville School has sought to present the full view (including our support for the excellent Frank Barnes School), and our responses can be found on our website: http://groups.google.com/group/ENSCampaign.
The accommodation that Frank Barnes School requires is, perfectly rightly, that of a separate school, which is totally different from the suggestion that the site will be shared with an extra 30 children. Camden’s £10million is therefore for building two schools.
A proportion of this is allocated for temporary accommodation, so the figure allocated for the Edith Neville School rebuild is £4.5m.
Edith Neville School is high on the list of Camden primaries due to be totally rebuilt under the government’s 15-year Primary Capital Programme. The school has well-developed community plans for its site. The vision is for a campus that will serve our children best and provide a focus for pride and regeneration in Somers Town.
Our current school never was fit for use because of a rushed rebuild in the early 70s, and Camden is now proposing another rushed rebuild!
