Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 July 2008

Paradise lost: now’s time to use precious shops

• PARADISE Foods of 164 Kentish Town Road featured in an article on small businesses earlier this year (Being Small is not always beautiful, March 6). The shop will close soon after 20 years of trading.

Its proprietors Charlie and Maria Stasi pioneered the provision of wholesome foods and supplements in the area, and may well have done so for another decade but for the pressure from larger competitors which have opened nearby in the past couple of years.
Though sad to close, they are philosophical, accepting that times change, and grateful for making a living doing what they liked best. Their friendly service will be greatly missed.
In contrast to Hampstead Town, where the small trader has mostly given way to a multitude of shoes and fashion shops, leavened with estate agencies, Kentish Town Road, which is our high street, flourishes with a variety of affordable shops and cafés too.
They need our custom to survive, otherwise they too will close. Use them or lose them!
