Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 10 July 2008

Bus route scores well for its reliability

FIRST I would like to introduce myself. My name is Steven and I am the Metroline route controller for the C11. I am writing with reference to your story “Bus drivers face time checks as passengers wield report cards” (July 3).
The buses are based at West Perivale and run out of service from the garage in the morning to start at both ends of the route.
The last bus arrives at Brent Cross from the garage at 0756 and from this point the fleet of buses are then on the road.
The drivers are then, throughout the day, ferried (not on buses) back and forth to start/finish their daily duties.
So the buses don’t “leave late from the garage” as they never go to the garage until they finish for the day.
Secondly, the C11 is independently checked and scores quite highly in its reliability.
My last point – and this is something that the public don’t seem to understand – is the C11 goes down very tight one-way streets with many obstacles and obstructions and is very easily held up. This, coupled with the fact we have to deal on a face-to-face basis with the London public – some of whom are quite obstinate and unruly – can delay a driver.
In short it is very easy for one bus to be held up while the bus behind catches up.
I take personal responsibility for the performance of this route on a daily basis and can assure people I take great pride in my work.
Unfortunately we are only human, and I apologise if people are inconvenienced, but I can assure people that the C11 route is a well-run route and all the people that work on it work to the best of their ability to deliver a quality service.
