Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 July 2008

It’s been a long stretch

• WE have just read the article regarding the studio space of Paula Rego and found it so amusing to note that you stated that the previous tenants made “hospital stretchers” (Art world rallies to save Rego’s studio, June 26).
In fact we manufacture artists’ stretcher frames and have been doing so since 1928.
Bird & Davis Ltd started out in Rochester Place in April 1928.
When we left in the early 1990s we moved just further along the high road, to 45 Holmes Road, Kentish Town, where we still manufacture artist stretcher frames, supplying artists worldwide.
We are proud to say that we are probably one of the oldest manufacturers of artist stretchers in the United Kingdom.
We are also one of the largest art shops in north London.
We are a truly a hidden gem!
