London schools call-up for track and field duo

TOP athletes Finbarr Rickets and Ethan Bushay-Louis have been selected to represented London in the English Schools Championships next month after putting on impressive displays at Battersea over the weekend.
Competing in the London Schools Athletics Championships, Finbarr recorded a winning time of 22.6 seconds to take gold in the boys’ intermediate 200m. The William Ellis pupil also recorded a time of 11.3 secs to finish third in his 100m event.
Meanwhile Ethan, who goes to Hampstead School, was also victorious as he won the junior boys’ long jump with a distance of 5.72m.
Overall the Camden contingent captured a total of 12 medals.
South Hampstead pupil Imogen Strannis Oppler won the girls’ intermediate 300m event with a creditable time of 42.4 seconds.
Team-mates William Laing, who goes to University College School, also took top spot on the podium after hitting home first in his 800m race.
Krystina Francis of Maria Fidelis School recorded a time of 12.3 secs to take silver in the girls’ intermediate 80m hurdles. Asli Champion and George Laing also both finished as runners-up in their respective shot putt and 400m.
Camden took their medal count in to double figures with a string of third-place finishes. Amy-Jane Cotter of North Bridge House School threw a personal best of 23.26m in the junior girls’ javelin to take bronze, while Acland Burghley pupil Samara Williams was third in the junior girls’ 1500m.
Imogen Strannis Oppler collected her second medal of the afternoon when she finished third in the 80m hurdles. The final medal of the day was won by Ashley St Ange of Acland Burghley, who finished third in the junior boys’ discus with a distance of 24.77m.
