Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 June 2008

Sorry for socialists?

• I FEEL truly sorry for honourable local politicians such as Roger Robinson, Julian Fulbrook and Frank Dobson who have remained faithful to their socialist party ideals.
But their party, in the guise of New Labour and compounded by Gordon Brown, has upped and left them swinging in the wind.
The contempt of a series of housing ministers welching on the £273 million debt of honour so desperately needed to bring our 25,000 council-owned housing up to scratch has been compounded by an ever-increasing stream of ghastly new proposals:
How can a socialist party embrace identity cards, endorse Trident, introduce university top-up fees, PFIs that our children will pay for, propose a third runway at Heathrow, privatise the NHS by stealth, close three local post offices?
And now it’s set to close both Hampstead and Kentish Town police stations.
