Valuable points for Highgate

DESPITE having no specialist throwers, Highgate Harriers finished second in their latest outing in Division One of the Southern League.
Matt Dore-Weeks and Calvin Chua both gained valuable points for Highgate. Dore-Weeks won his 400m hurdles, finished second in the long jump and took third place in both the 110m hurdles and the high jump. Chua also performed well, finishing second in his long jump event and third in triple jump.
Elsewhere Ollie Barnet won the hurdles and finished second in the high jump, while Simon Child was narrowly beaten for first place in the 400m hurdles and was second in the triple jump.
One of the performances of the day belonged to Glen Saqui, who showed great determination over distance to win the 5000m and finish second in the 800m.
Meanwhile rival running club London Heathside were also out in force. Pete Crockford put in a commanding performance to finish ninth in the Sri Chinmoy two-mile road race at Battersea Park.
The senior squad returned to Battersea in force on Saturday for their latest Southern League Division Three fixture. Ricardo Beckford sealed four comfortable victories, the 110m hurdles, discus, javelin and high jump.
Track and field stars Emmanuel Stasaitis and Jake Mattinson were among the top performers as London Heathside’s juniors turned out for their Division Two fixture in the National Young Athletes Southern League.
Stasaitis led the charge as he won the men’s Under-17s high jump, long jump and triple jump. On the track, Jake Mattinson was in fine form as he finished second in both the 400m and the 800m in the boys’ Under-15s competition.
Other Heathside highlights saw Colin Kpodonu win the boys’ Under-13s 100m, finish second in the long jump and third in the shot putt.
