Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 June 2008

We must not be tempted by this call to abandon recycling

• TO your correspondent (Plainly we should ditch the green box… June 5). Oh no you don’t!
Don’t try and use my and Councillor Alexis Rowell’s objections to the current deficiencies of Camden’s recycling system to try to justify the abandoning of recycling. Our letters were meant to encourage the improvement of our recycling system, not abandon it!
Most of the recycling doesn’t end up as landfill at all. We must keep pushing for the return of sorted collections, and (as Catherine Hays points out) push for food waste collection as well, as successfully managed in Haringey and other boroughs.
So please, readers, ignore this call to abandon recycling; we know how important it is as a first step to tackling the problems that your children will inherit from our currently wasteful way of life.
Russell Jones, NW3
