Finbarr’s hat-trick for Harriers

WILLIAM Ellis schoolboy Finbarr Rickets hit the headlines for the Highgate Harriers on Sunday with a hat-trick of victories in the Under-17s Division of the Young Athletics League at Parliament Hill Fields.
The triumphant 16-year-old, who only took up athletics in December, showed his spectacular short distance speed as he powered his way to victory in the 100m, the 200m and the 400m.
Finbarr then teamed up with Robert White, Leon Silcott and Frankie-Lee Farmer to finish second in the 4x100m relay.
The medal count continued in the Under-13s category with Stanley Harrison winning gold in the 200m and silver in the 1500m.
Golden girl Samara Williams won the 1500m, while Alex Eastman won the Under-13s high jump and silver in the long jump.
Brothers William and Peter Laing also made the winners podium, with William finishing second in the Under-17s 800m and third in the 200m and Peter hitting home third in the Under-13s 800m.
There were silver medals for Hamish Birrell, who finished second in the Under-17s 800m, and Mei Corbett, who took the runners-up spot in the Under-15s long jump. Mei also won bronze in the discus.
Another of Highgate’s young stars was Amy Jane-Cotter, who recorded two personal bests in the Under-15s competition to finish second in the high jump and third in the javelin.
There were also wins for Asli Champion, George Laing, Roland Turnell-Ritson, Isabel Barnes, India Gurmail-Kaufmann and Andrea Kennedy.
