Ex-hospital worker died after falls

A FORMER hospital worker suffering from depression and alcohol addiction was found dead at his Euston flat by care staff, an inquest heard on Monday.
Steve Tunbridy, 53, suffered a heart attack at his home in Grafton Way, Euston, last December.
A post-mortem indicated heart disease as the cause of death and noted bruises and cuts on Mr Tunbridy’s scalp and a skull fracture as a result of a series of falls.
His sister Teresa Ellis, who lives in Essex, alerted the Careline service after she became concerned about her brother’s welfare when he failed to return her calls.
Mrs Ellis told St Pancras Coroner’s Court that since a quadruple heart bypass Mr Tunbridy had become increasingly depressed and had been in a frail state of mind two weeks prior to his death when she met him in Liverpool Street for a coffee.
Coroner Dr Andrew Reid said alcohol abuse and accidental falls contributed to Mr Tunbridy’s death but recorded a verdict of natural causes.
Outside the court, Mrs Ellis said: “He was a very lovely, kind person, but unfortunately when he had his illnesses he had to give up his work which is when he became depressed.
“Initially he was a big, robust man but he diminished.”
