Lib Dem ‘cake stall’ set to leave sour taste

THE Lib Dems last night (Wednesday) denied claims they have infiltrated Camden’s Green Fair by running a cake stall at the event in Regent’s Park.
Council leader Keith Moffitt said members of the party would be “helping out” with refreshments but not running an official Lib Dem stall in a bid to attract support. It follows warnings from the organisers that councillors should not use the Green Fair for party politics.
Attractions include the sale of fair trade goods and free tips on how to limit harm to the environment.
Ward councillor Theo Blackwell said: “It’s a shame that the Royal Parks won’t allow political parties – we’re just as much part of the community as any other organisation – but so be it. No politics this year – apart from the Lib Dems, who have snuck in due to their ‘cake stall’.”
The Royal Parks Agency said that applications for political stalls would be considered on a “case by case” basis as permission was needed for advertising in the park.
The Green Fair is open to all on Sunday from noon to 7pm.
