Mental health services need more than a sticking plaster approach
• USERS of the local mental health services have seen bed numbers reduced, day services cut and presently the only drop-in at Tottenham Mews is under threat.
Alongside this, Camden Council has severely restricted the availability of the Disabled Persons’ Freedom Pass to people who are suffering from psychiatric problems. Camden Mental Health Consortium was set up to protect those who suffer mental ill-health but it seems to support these cuts and betray the group that is there to defend.
The PCT or the Camden & Islington Foundation Trust are reducing the mental health services so that they now provide little more than sticking plaster solutions to the serious problems which affect one in four of the population at some time in their life.
