Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 22 May 2008

In praise of caretakers

• IF Camden wishes to keep the caretaking in-house it must first look at the management cost as I would think there are more managers employed than caretakers.
Why do they need so many patch managers? For every two patch managers the council could employ five more caretakers and then there are the on-site supervisors.
What the council should do is get rid of at least 90 per cent of all managers.
This would, in turn, mean they could cut the cost of the caretaking sector and still employ more caretakers.
I spent 18 years as a caretaker and would not think there is one person on the review panel who has worked as a caretaker or who has lived on a council estate.
