Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 May 2008

Building for the future with another stealth tax rise

• AN important part of the election promises of both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats back in 2006 was to do something about the parking situation in Camden.
While some minor improvements have been made the total amount of money filched from motorists and residents has vastly increased – now more than £22 million per year.
However, the latest increase in builders’ permit charges – put up from £10 to £33 per day – makes no sense except as a further money-maker.
If you need three separate builders for a week (all of whom need cars to transport their tools and materials) this will cost £500.
Obviously builders will have to pass the cost on to us residents.
This further stealth tax rise seems to have been slipped in without many councillors realising what was happening.
Perhaps the appropriate councillor who authorised this increase can explain the rationale to us ?
