The cost of tap water
• WHEREAS the old Swiss Cottage sports centre always served food and drinks at reasonable prices, the licensed catering outlet in the new building is so expensive I can’t afford to buy a drink, let alone a meal.
The swimming pool has no drinking water fountain, hence I occasionally request a glass of tap water at the café before or after swimming.
Some of the staff seem to be perfectly happy to oblige, but some give me dirty looks as if I had asked them to serve me a free meal. Recently I was told by a stern faced woman that tap water is available only for paying customers.
Since this café is also the main access to spectator seating in the pool, the council and the company must have some arrangements over access by non-paying members of the public who use pool facilities.
Perhaps it would be common courtesy for Camden Council to install a drinking water fountain at the pool side.
Employees at this café should not behave as if their business has nothing to do with ordinary pool users, some of whom might not be able to afford the prices on their menu.
