Benefits to estate include homes, art, and a new club
• I’M glad that the Camden planning committee approved the Regent’s Place development.
But while your report focused on what some objectors thought (Towers ‘will shatter park as city refuge’, May 1), the article neglected to report that the development was supportered by many local people and the West Euston Partnership, the community regeneration body which negotiated local wins for the Regent’s Park estate over the last three years.
Benefits to the estate include:
• £350,000 to rebuild the Samuel Lithgow Youth Club – the fact that this money has been promised has enabled the youth club to lever in an extra £400,000 from the Big Lottery fund so that the estate can get a brand new youth club;
• 70 affordable homes;
• Extra capital funding for the Bengali Workers Association;
• Public art for the estate;
• A place for a farmers’ market on Longwall Street;
• £3 million for a redesign of the Euston Road, breaking down the barrier between north and south of the borough;
• Places for local apprentices.
So well done to everyone involved. It’s great to see local people benefiting from the developments going on around us!
