Town’s Jonathan Donoghue embarks on a surging run

Raise a glass to the toast of the Town!

THE champagne was flowing on Saturday when Kentish Town Football Club clinched the Division One title in the Spartan South Midlands League.
Despite not even kicking a ball at the weekend, players from the semi-professional side were crowned champions after closest rivals Haringey Borough were held to a surprising 2-2 draw against Winslow United.
Town were already guaranteed promotion into the Premier Division after beating Cheshunt Reserves 3-0 in their final game of the season.
But if rivals Haringey had won their remaining two games and scored an unlikely 12 goals along the way they would have finished top on goal-difference, and denied Kentish Town their title triumph.
Those fears became cheers, however, when Haringey dropped points against second from bottom Winslow, confirming Town as deserving champions.
It is a huge achievement for the Camden and Islington based club, which is now just five levels away from the Football Conference.
Strikers Lee Scott and Jonathan Donoghue have been instrumental in leading Town to the title, scoring 57 goals between them to help the club finish as joint top scorers in Division One with 92 goals in just 36 games.
Head coach Clement Temile, who recently made headlines when he applied for the post as manager of the Nigerian national team, was delighted to have helped lead Kentish Town to glory: “We believed we could do it and we did.
“We are champions. Everyone’s extremely happy.”
