Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 May 2008

Snookered by potty decision

• AS a relatively new resident in Camden, a borough whose amenities I have appreciated for years, I was pleasantly surprised to find a fully functioning snooker hall equipped with seven full-size, immaculate, tables, atmosphere and architecture.
A snooker hall is a place in which to enjoy a traditional social activity which requires a high degree of skill to master but one which can be enjoyed by absolute beginners of any age.
Obviously there are gentlemen’s clubs in Mayfair or wherever with their own tables but an ordinary person like myself is unlikely to have a frame on one of those!
But here in Camden is an accessible, inexpensive facility with all the essential features for a traditional social activity – a wonderful snooker hall dating back many years .
Lo and behold: someone wants to knock it down, to demolish it, to discard this heritage.
I could afford to play at the snooker hall but will not be able to afford a new apartment there.
