Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 April 2008

The going rate for mayor’s job?

• WITH the scrapping of the 10p starting rate of tax, over 5.3 million people will be suffering a damaging loss of income.
My fear is that this increase is going to hit Londoners hard. It’s combined with rises in prices for food, fuel, transport and council tax. The government is helping the slightly better off by penalising the worst off members of society.
It is too easy for politicians who earn way above the national average to inflict these tax hikes on ordinary people, which is why my party’s mayoral candidate Lindsey German has pledge to only take an average London wage and is challenging the other candidates to join her.
Nuruzzaman Hira,
The Left List candidate for GLA
