Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 April 2008

Threat of terrorism

NEW Labour’s determination to push through 42 days detention without charge for terrorist suspects will have the opposite effect from that intended.
Instead of lessening the threat of terrorist attacks, it will brand many innocent people, especially young Muslims, as terrorists, will lead to unreliable evidence, and will create a climate of fear inside many ethnic minority communities.
This violates human rights acts. If we want to reduce the threat of terrorism, let’s change the policies which help to create it.
Ending the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing justice to the Palestinians, and defending the Muslim community would all help to end the basis for terrorism and make London a safer place.
