Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 March 2008

Snapping brutality?

• I HAVE just read with interest the letter from Abdul Salam (March 6) where he gives high praise to the drone who stopped him while taking a photograph of an old church.
A similar thing happened to me. I stopped to take a photo of the Broadway Theatre in Catford. It’s a lovely old art deco building and looked terrific lit up at night. A community police woman tapped me on the elbow and asked me why I was taking pictures. I was outraged that she considered me some kind of threat and told her so. Could all this have anything to do with the huge increase of digital cameras and camera phones where it is so easy for any member of the public to film police brutality or other dodgy behaviour by petty officialdom?
Are we being conditioned into accepting “stop and search” as routine?
