Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 13 March 2008

Is it too taxing to turn up for budget meeting?

• I WAS amazed to see that two of Belsize’s three Liberal Democrat councillors failed to turn up last week for the council meeting that sets the annual budget and council tax, and that the third broke with his party and failed to oppose a Green Party amendment proposing a larger increase.
I recognise the voters’ right to throw me out, as they did in 2006.
But had I still been a councillor for Belsize ward, I would certainly have turned up for the meeting, and I would have opposed proposals to increase the council tax above inflation.
JONNY BUCKNELL
Former Belsize councillor 2002-2006
Chamberlain Street, NW1
