Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 March 2008

In praise of Patrick

• MAY I join in the tributes to Patrick Breen, whose sad and premature death you have reported (A generous, loyal and lovably stubborn press man of principle, February 28).
When I was chairman of the South Camden, then Bloomsbury Community Health Councils from 1979 to 1983 we had great problems both in obtaining information from the respective health authorities and in informing the public of essential facts.
Pat Breen was brilliant. He was a great investigative journalist for the old Camden Journal, and perhaps one of the very key persons in ensuring the success of the present Camden New Journal, which is now the principal source of essential information for local residents. We always knew that we could count on him to seek out the facts and report them accurately and without prejudice. His reporting both on health and other issues was exemplary, and he always seemed to be available when necessary.
Many people will regret his loss at the age of 50, and may I pass on my personal condolences to his family.
Dr Alan Berson
