Anaconda in seventh heaven with sprints 20-medal haul

SEVEN super swimmers from Anaconda wafted through the water at the weekend as they scooped 20 medals at the Barnet Copthall Sprints Meet.
Clare Walton was among the perfect pool performers as she set a new Barnet meet record to win the 50m backstroke, leading the Islington club team to an amazing haul of seven gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.
Competing in the open girls’ category, the speedy 14-year-old also stormed to victory in the 50m breaststroke and the 75m and 100m individual medley, before snatching silver in the 50m butterfly with a personal best time.
Team-mate Mei Corbett showed an impressive return to form, winning gold in the 75m individual medley, silver in the 50m breaststroke, the 50m backstroke and the 100m individual medley, and taking third place in the 50m butterfly.
The medal mania continued with Harley Greer setting a new personal best to win gold in the 50m breaststroke. Harley also captured silver in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m butterfly.
Other medal winners were Kathleen Bartha, who won silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke, Julia Taylor, who finished second in the open girls’ 50m freestyle, and Iona Davey, who clinched bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
Jud Broscombe-Walker capped off a memorable meet when he won gold in the gala’s novelty event, the 25m underwater race, and bronze in the open men’s butterfly.
