Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 21 February 2008

Fight to save nick

THE consultation on the invidious plans to close Hampstead police station finishes at the end of next week.
In order to underline the strength of local opposition to these plans, I am organising a demonstration outside the police station at noon on Saturday February 23.
I hope that this will illustrate the strength of local feeling against these plans, and send a message to the Metropolitan Police Authority that they must not close our police station.
Camden’s community safety scrutiny committee, which I chair, voted unanimously against the plans to close the station. The closure will increase 999 response times, make the police more distant from the local community and lose us a valuable freehold asset.
I would urge your readers to come along to the demo at noon on 23rd. The more people who come along, the clearer the message will be that closing our police station is not acceptable to local people in our neighbourhood.
Chris Philp
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Hampstead & Kilburn
