Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 21 February 2008

Police in schools is an indictment

• THE fact that the government has a policy to put police in most schools in the UK is a shocking indictment of 10 years of neglect of our youth.
There has been a chronic underinvestment in youth from successive governments and councils over the years. £55 billion for Northern Rock to shore up the precious free market and practically zip for the kids.
That’s the real crime we should be fighting.
Young men are full of testosterone and they need an outlet for it. If they don’t get it you get trouble, it’s not rocket science any idiot can understand that.
Criminalising more and more of the youth is going to lead to far greater trouble when they can’t get jobs because of criminal records.
Even my well-behaved, A-grade daughter says there is nowhere for the kids to go.
It’s not an excuse it’s a reality. The problem is poverty on the estates and that’s where the answer is too.
Wake up Gordon Brown, Camden Council, London Assembly and all.
