Tourney first-timers fire Anaconda to trophy glory

STAR splashers from Anaconda Swimming Club were celebrating on Saturday when they brought the Tappin Trophy back to Islington.
The stunning victory was made all the more remarkable given the fact that nine of the swimmers were competing for the first time.
The triumphant boys’ team put in a series of perfect pool performances throughout the Feltham meet as they recorded 11 overall wins in the time-banded gala. The super squad clinched seven individual titles, with Harry Grubb, Redi Qosja, Sammy Williams, Sam Dixon, Tashan Harris-Wilson, Ben Bedwell and Jud Broscombe-Walker all winning gold.
Grubb, Qosja and Dixon teamed up with Ronnie Grubb to win both the Under-13s relay titles, before Ronnie up-graded to the Under-15s competition to seal another relay victory, this time alongside Harris-Wilson, Bedwell and James Verity.
The open men’s team of Sam Spence, Joe Grubb, Hayden Thomas and Broscombe-Walker combined to win the medley relay, followed by a superb win in the the mixed boys and girls 8x25m squadron.
Newcomers Gemma Jones, Maya Spence, Isis Hudson and Yelena Zylko each swam personal best times and went on to score three individual wins in the girls’ Under-11s age group.
