Hungary on the offensive!

MORE than 130 fencers from 11 countries turned out in force at the weekend for the Camden International Cadet Sabre Tournament.
Jointly held at Acland Burghley School in Tufnell Park and William Ellis School in Highgate, the competition attracted the attentions of some of the biggest talents within the sport, including a string of Olympic hopefuls, as it returned for the second year.
Camden Fencing Club was well represented with a team of 12 members from the host club turning out to represent Great Britain. Highly-rated swordsman Curtis Miller was named among the Camden contingent competing in the event. The 15-year-old is the first fencer from the club to qualify for the world championships, and has also recently been selected to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming European championships.
Among the special guests who turned out were Camden mayor Dawn Somper, Councillor Flick Rea, chairman of London 2012 Richard Sumray, president of British Fencing Keith Smith, and former captain of Great Britain Athletics Team and triple Olympian Dalton Grant.
Overall the tournament proved a huge success. After two days of action, Hungary were the biggest winners as they clinched gold in both the boys and girls team events and also won the boys’ individual competition. Germany won the girls’ individual category.
