Hawley to rise from the ashes

ONCE a monument to Camden’s celebrity rock’n’roll fraternity, the Hawley Arms pub stands as a ghostly reminder to the ferocity of Saturday night’s inferno.
Half-drunk pints, abandoned in haste, rest on the bar like a scene from a rocker’s Pompeii, while Polaroid snaps of smiling faces remain on the soot-stained walls.
The top two floors have been gutted and are lined with smashed windows.
On Tuesday morning the Hawley’s owners took stock and tried to salvage precious memorabilia from the pub.
Co-owner Ruth Mottram said it was a “devastating” loss but vowed to get the landmark back in business as soon as possible – possibly within six months.
She told XFM: “The whole thing’s totally shocking for everybody but we have to stay positive and put all our energies into reopening as soon as possible.
The celebrity haunt, popular with Amy Winehouse, Chris Moyles and Kate Moss, has dodged demolition after surveyors ruled the pub did not suffer sufficient structural damage to be torn down.
