In support of Nancy

• HAVING read the article (Lib Dems pick black candidate, January 24) I would like to pledge my support to Nancy Jirira and I am glad that someone from a different ethnic background has decided to stand to represent Fortune Green.
Having chosen Nancy it is an indication that the Liberal Democrats are a diverse party that has members from different ethnic backgrounds.

• I take exception to your headline Lib Dems pick black candidate, January 24.
I am sure Nancy Jirira has been selected on the strength of her ability to represent the people of Fortune Green and not her ethnic background.
Just to remind you it is 2008 and not 1948.
