Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 7 February 2008

The ghosts of our society

• THE feature about Arlington House (Voices of the dispossessed, January 17) featured those we do not normally hear and see.
I have two friends from Camden who have been in and out in hostels until the council finally gave them a flat.
These people are very lonely and there aren’t many people around them who care or even notice them. I call them the ghosts of society.
When these guys go home there isn’t anybody waiting for them so all they have is skunk and booze and each other. We have to be responsible for these people because we are the society of these people. Of course, they aren’t always pretty to look at and feeling sorry for them isn’t helping at all. Arlington is right there in the centre of Camden, not far from the Jazz Cafe where the cool and hip go and yet nobody knows.
Essentially we don’t care do we but at least we have to stop being so ignorant and walk towards the ones less fortunate than us.
