Last orders at the bar – Camden’s best publican calls time after 15 years at the Oxford

THE “best publican in Camden Town” held a farewell party on Thursday after 15 years behind the bar.
Pat Logue bought everyone a final drink as he said his last goodbyes to friends and regulars at Camden High Street boozer the Oxford Arms.
Mr Logue became known over the years for his charity work and distinctive quiz-master style.
He raised more than £10,000 for Camden’s needy after dreaming up the Camden New Journal Christmas Hamper Appeal pub quiz six years ago.
Mick Doheny of the World’s End said: “Pat epitomises the heart and soul of Camden and humanity. That is reflected in his charity work. He’ll be sorely missed.”
John Nolan, publican of the Elephant’s Head for nearly 30 years, said: “I’m very sad to see him go. He’s a good friend and a good neighbour. He’s the best publican in Camden Town.”
Denny Murphy from the Sovereign in Euston said: “I’d love to be as good a publican as he is.”
Mr Logue, from Donegal in Ireland, said he planned to spend his time off watching television, going to watch Celtic matches and having his weekend’s free.
He said: “I’ve had some great times in the Oxford, and Tom and Anne Maloney [the owners] have been great, but there comes a time in your life when you don’t want to be on call 24/7. You want your Saturdays off like normal people.”
But he said he hoped to be “back in the game” soon, and dreamed of a return to Camden. “I’m getting a bit bored with Coronation Street already. I’ll be back,” he said.
