Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 January 2008

Take a public stand against ID cards

• INSPIRED by Councillor Paul Braithwaite’s letter (Scheme no safeguard against terror, January 3) I went to the monthly meeting of the Camden NO2ID group and discovered NO2ID is already the second-largest civil liberties organisation in the country. No matter how unpopular the government’s plans for a database state are, they are likely to succeed as, one after another, everyday services come to require national ID registration.
In this we need the active support of our council. Many local councils have already declared their refusal to make services depend on registration with the national ID scheme.
Will Camden take a public stand on this?
